A Brief History of Bad Moon Rising

Bad Moon Rising was the first single released from Credence's third album Green River and was a tremendous commercial success. Written by John Fogerty, Bad Moon Rising made it all the way to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the fall of 1969, and it has become one of the most iconic tracks from the 1960s' rock music canon. The song alludes to the horrors of war, and it predicts that the end times are near when one eye is taken for an eye. In the era of the Vietnam War, Credence Clearwater Revival was known as one of the most important protest bands, and this song is in the company of several of their other important anti-war hits like Effigy, Who'll Stop the Rain? and Fortunate Son. To this day, the sentiments of songs like Bad Moon Rising are as appropriate as ever.

Credence Clearwater Revival was a four-piece rock band whose swampy sound was straightforward and direct. Guitar and bass players of all playing levels can benefit from a musical study of C.C.R.'s music through Bad Moon Rising tabs. For the beginning rock band, a song like this is an approachable number because it doesn't have a lot of complicated chords or intricate riffs. Songs like this are perfect tools for fledgling players to cut their musical teeth on. However, more advanced players who feel that they have nothing to learn from Credence will be reminded that great rock music is not about how fast or how fancy you can play. Great rock music starts with a great song that is delivered with a lot of heart. All the technical skills in the world won't compensate for that simple fact.
