Guns N Roses Tabs
From LoveToKnow Guitar
For guitar players who are fans of heavy metal, finding reliable sources for Guns N Roses tabs is indispensable.
The Guns N Roses Phenomenon
If the late 1980s was the heyday for hard rock and heavy metal, Guns N Roses (GNR) was the undisputed king of the era. Bursting onto the music scene in 1987 with the aptly titled Appetite for Destruction, GNR dismantled the contemporary popular music landscape virtually overnight. Guns N Roses' sound and look was certainly contemporary, yet they also honored the past masters of hard rock, like Aerosmith and The Stooges through their swagger and stripped down sound. This eye on the future with a foot in the past aesthetic instantly gave the band a depth and a sincerity that was sorely missing from rock and roll at the time. The results were indisputable as Guns N Roses became the biggest selling band in the world over the next five years.
Izzy and Slash – The Players Behind Guns N Roses Tabs
The significance of the guitar soundscape created by Izzy Stradlin and Slash is evident from the first chords of Welcome to the Jungle. Joining a tradition that includes Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones and Brad Whitford and Joe Perry from Aerosmith, Slash and Izzy demonstrate remarkable prowess for what Keith Richards calls the ancient art of weaving. While Izzy is technically the rhythm player and Slash is the lead player, what you will quickly notice as you begin to study Guns N Roses tablature is that both these players navigate seamlessly between groovy rhythm parts and melodic lead parts throughout the course of the songs.
This weaving style of play is most notable for its insistence that the song itself, above all else, should be privileged. While many other guitarists in the late 1980s displayed more dramatic, acrobatic guitar chops, what set Guns N Roses apart (and what led to their selling millions and millions of records) was their songwriting. Sweet Child O Mine has some beautiful guitar playing, but the song itself is what stays with you. So let that be a lesson to to all the young guitar players in the LoveToKnow audience as you explore the Guns N Roses tabs below.
