About The Artist
Alison Krauss was born in Decatur, Illinois. At a young age, she became interested in music and began playing the violin. She also began entering talent competitions and event championships. Her musical style in her youth was a combination of bluegrass and pop.
Different Strokes, Krauss' first album in 1985, featured her brother as a performer. She moved on to sign to Rounder Records. She also started to work with back up band, Union Station. The group soon helped Krauss create her next album, Two Highways. The album stylistically mixed an older bluegrass sound with Krauss' own contemporary interpretation. The album also brought her first Grammy Award for Steel Rails.
In 1992, she released Everytime You Say Goodbye. The album drew a larger audience and won her a Grammy Award for Bluegrass Album of the Year. Her next album, 1994's I Know Who Holds Tomorrow, was released in 1994. Her 1997 album, So Long So Wrong, was lauded as the album that might change the world's mind about bluegrass music as a whole. The album took the bluegrass genre in a new direction and included the track It Doesn't Matter which was featured on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer soundtrack. The album also won her another Grammy Award for Bluegrass Album of the Year. By the time 1999's album Forget About It was released, Krauss was an established bluegrass star.
Other albums by Alison Krauss include New Favorite, Lonely Runs Both Ways and Raising Sand. She has also appeared on numerous television specials and events and was featured in a duet on Brad Paisley's Mud On The Tire album.
