Less Than Jake Background

Less Than Jake (LTJ) began in Gainesville, Florida. Although they are best known for their ska/punk songs, the band originally leaned towards power pop and pop punk. The band presently consists of Chris Demakes, Roger Manganelli, Vinnie Fiorello, Buddy Schaub and Peter Wasilewski. Former band members include Shaun Grief, Jessica Mills, Derron Nuhfer and Pete Anna. Founding members Demakes, Fiorello and Grief originally were part of the band Good Grief while the members were still in high school before moving on to create LTJ.

The band slowly transformed into Less Than Jake and added a horn player, Jessica Mills, for their Smoke Spot record. Only 300 copies of this album were made, and the band kept them all. Soon after, the band added a trombone player. From this point on, their sound developed into a larger big band ska kind of noise. The band's first true full-length album, Pezcore, was released in 1995. Due to the success of this record, the band was later signed to Capitol Records.

After signing with Capitol, LTJ released Losing Streak in 1996. To date, many fans mark this recording as one of their favorite albums by the band. The band also began a stint on the famous Warped Tour following a tour with popular band Blink 182. Other tours that the band has been on include tours with the Descendants and Bon Jovi. As a result of their rising popularity, LTJ bought their contract from Capitol and released 2000's Borders and Boundaries on Fat Wreck Records. The album was followed by Goodbye Blue and White and later by Anthem. They returned to a major label for their later releases.

In the late 2000's, Less Than Jake began to re-emerge on large tours with bands such as Catch 22 and the Dropkick Murphy's. The band released In With The Out Crowd in 2006. They still remain active and performing on the 2009 Warped Tour. One of the most remarkable things about Less Than Jake is that they have been able to weather the seas of a drastically changing music scene to still end up on top.
