Frampton Comes Alive

If you were alive and in tune with the music scene during the 1970's, it would have been just about impossible to miss out on the tidal wave of attention, accolades and publicity that accompanied the release of Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive! LP in 1976. Frampton was already on the radar with a few solid solo albums after leaving Humble Pie. He had a reputation for putting on first rate concert performances, but this album delivered his music to the masses as nothing else had before.

Alive! set the bar for the public's expectations, and the album would quickly prove difficult for the performer to live up to. Frampton's follow up, I'm in You, generated a lot of initial attention and even a few hits, but even with collaborations from the likes of Stevie Wonder and Ringo Starr, the album fell short of the success of its predecessor.

Frampton continued to churn out albums with moderate US success, but he has yet to see a return to the glory days he experienced with his monumental live album. Still, a few of his best songs have found their way into the soundtrack of our lives, and rockers of all ages still feel inspired to learn how to play them.
