The band was signed to Columbia/Sony BMG records in 2002 and to Lowercase People in 2007. They released three more albums: The Beautiful Letdown, Nothing is Sounds, and Oh! Gravity.

Their album Learning to Breathe won public acclaim, a Grammy nomination, and went certified gold by the RIAA. Part of the reason for their newfound public success was the movie A Walk To Remember. Staring Mandy Moore and Shane West, the movie featured songs by Switchfoot and they was prominently featured on the movie's soundtrack.

As a result of the success the movie achieved, the band released The Beautiful Letdown with Columbia Records. The album has presently sold over 2.5 million copies and has won four Dove Awards. Soon after, the band left Columbia in order to release music through an independent label band.
