About Switchfoot

Hailing from Southern California (San Diego, more specifically), Switchfoot began their rise to fame in 2002. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist Jon Foreman, bass guitar player Tim Foreman, drummer Chad Butler, guitar player Drew Shirley and guitar/keyboard player Jerome Fontamillas. The band was originally named Chin Up and were signed to Re:think Records. After changing their name to Switchftoot, the band released three albums through Re:think Records: The Legend of Chin, New Way to Be Human, and Learning to Breathe. The band was signed to Columbia/Sony BMG records in 2002 and to Lowercase People in 2007. They released three more albums: The Beautiful Letdown, Nothing is Sounds, and Oh! Gravity.

Their album Learning to Breathe won public acclaim, a Grammy nomination, and went certified gold by the RIAA. Part of the reason for their newfound public success was the movie A Walk To Remember. Staring Mandy Moore and Shane West, the movie featured songs by Switchfoot and they was prominently featured on the movie's soundtrack.

As a result of the success the movie achieved, the band released The Beautiful Letdown with Columbia Records. The album has presently sold over 2.5 million copies and has won four Dove Awards. Soon after, the band left Columbia in order to release music through an independent label band.
