Great tips man, I think Amazon is great for buying basses online too. The site play-bass.com has a section about buying through Amazon and Ebay.

Bass Player Magazine and the 2008 Summer NAMM raved about this $95 2-string bass called the "Bogdon Box Bass" (google it) it's really kinda crazy but has a great tone.
